New Child
I’m growing my family.
Top tip!
Congratulations on your new addition! You have 90 days from your child’s date of birth, adoption or placement for adoption, foster placement or legal guardianship effective date to add them to your Simplot coverage and make any other necessary changes to your benefits.
Before baby arrives
Find an OB-GYN and hospital
You’ll be visiting your doctor often throughout your pregnancy, so it’s important to find one that’s right for you. You can find an in-network doctor at members.bcidaho.com.
Remember that you can use your Health Savings Account to help pay for prenatal expenses, including vitamins and ultrasounds.
Find a pediatrician
Finding the right pediatrician for your child can take some time. You can search for in-network doctors at members.bcidaho.com. Meet with them before your little one arrives to make sure you find the perfect fit.
Feel free to use the money in your Health Savings Account to help pay for any out-of-pocket expenses.

postpartum support

Tap into their practitioner network covering more than 30 specialties, including OB-GYNs, doulas, career coaches, and sleep coaches. Get referrals to quality OB-GYNs who meet your unique needs, and check out the personalized pregnancy, partner and loss tracks and clinical support for high-risk pregnancies. It’s available to you at no cost if you’re enrolled in the Simplot Medical Program.
Plan your time away
As a family-owned company, it’s important to Simplot that we support employees as they build their own families. Paid Family Building Leave is available to eligible employees following the birth of a child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption, foster care or any other qualifying legal guardianship situation.
In addition to Paid Family Building Leave, you may be eligible for Short-Term Disability (STD). Explore your leave of absence options and contact The Standard to find out more.
When baby arrives
Start your leave
Be sure to tell your manager, your local Human Resources representative and The Standard that you’re officially on leave and when you expect to return to work. If you’re eligible for benefits through the Paid Family Building Leave policy, you’re eligible for 12 weeks of paid leave at 60% of your Basic Weekly Compensation if you’re the primary caregiver and two weeks if you’re the secondary caregiver.
Add your child to your benefits
You have 90 days from your child’s birth, adoption or placement for adoption, foster placement or legal guardianship effective date to make changes to your benefits and add them to your Simplot coverage. Claims will not be reimbursed by the Medical Program until you have completed enrollment for the child and submitted appropriate dependent verification documentation within 75 days of the event. To add your child, visit employee.simplot.com and click the Empyrean Benefits Enrollment tile to make changes.
Consider increasing your Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions
Increasing your HSA contributions can help cover the additional health care costs that come with a new addition to the family. HSA contributions can be changed at any time during the year without limits. Learn more on the HSA page.
Consider changes to your life insurance
Now is a good time to think about changing your personal life insurance coverage or adding additional coverage for your new child. Explore the details on the Life Insurance page, then be sure to make any changes within 90 days of your child’s birth, adoption or placement for adoption, foster placement or legal guardianship effective date.
